Why cotton is your ‘go to’?

Why cotton is your ‘go to’?

Skin-friendly, breathable, light and comfortable are some of the first words that ring a bell when you hear cotton. In a tropical country such as India, cotton is a popular choice of fabric fitting light on your body and pockets too! India being the largest contributor of cotton yarn make the finest pure quality threads you could find anywhere. Cotton is a biodegradable fabric that is odour free, helps your pace when the sweat glands activate and leaves you dry because of its natural pore pattern when weaved together. Highly versatile when it comes to its adaptability, you can layer them without the dire need to chuck them as soon as you step out into a humid day. Can easily be hand washed and if a machine wash is preferred uses very less detergent for an easy load.

Now that we have established cotton as our homie, let’s see if it passes the ‘sustainability test’. Being environmentally conscious is no more a choice with all the adverse events happening around. The mass production of factory-made fabrics has toxic dyes which irritate your skin and make up a large per cent of garments dump into local water bodies and landfills.

When cotton is checking in so many boxes of the good list, it comes with a footnote on how cotton is grown. There have been studies indicated that they show traces of pesticides on your T-shirt after multiple washes! The immediate comeback was the genetically modified cotton seeds which ended in the unemployment of local farmers who could not match up.

The alternative is sustainable cotton which is grown pesticide-free and without any genetic modifications. These seeds promote soil health and reduction of water intake help the community develop socially and economically.
